This year’s applicants will have the opportunity to check a box indicating their interest in a new, first-of-its-kind, joint degree program offered by the McDonough School of Business and the School of Foreign Service -- the Bachelor of Science in Business and Global Affairs (BGA). Business and global policy have become more interconnected than ever before. The new joint BSBGA is distinguished by an innovative and integrated approach to understanding the complex interactions among a myriad of forces that operate at the intersection of business and international affairs. McDonough and SFS faculty collaborated to create a unique set of courses, known as Signature courses, combining knowledge from both business and international affairs into each course. The faculty also will collaborate in delivering the Signature courses in an innovative team-teaching format. The Signature course sequence extends throughout the undergraduate experience, from the first year through senior year, and incorporates a variety of experience-based learning protocols involving projects with firms and institutions in DC and abroad. The projects and mandatory international travel are led by Georgetown faculty and offer intensive on-location application of the traditional classroom work. The goal of these experiences, as well as of all the other features of the BSBGA program, is to prepare students to navigate private, public, and nongovernmental environments, and contribute across cultures and sectors. The BGA program will launch this academic year – 2019-20 – for students graduating in the Class of 2023. Enrolled first-year students will apply in May to be selected to pursue the limited-enrollment BSBGA. The first cohort will include up to 20 rising sophomores from the McDonough School of Business and up to 20 rising sophomores from the School of Foreign Service.
